Review by:
Adolf G. Woltmann

The author, a well-known psychiatrist, explores the psychodynamics and emotional forces which can make or break marriages. Dr. Saul does so with a twofold purpose. He addresses himself to married people who may have reached seemingly insurmountable impasses; he touches upon the signals emanating from problem areas and discusses ways and means toward alleviation. To the single person who wants to get married, Dr. Saul offers an “ounce of prevention” as a guide towards love and harmony in marriage. The book is generously interspersed with case histories and patient-doctor dialogues. There are no theoretical contemplations. The book deals with real life and everyday aspects of living.

The book is neither a string of pedantic case reports, nor does it offer cures for mental ills. It is a straightforward story of people who have found themselves in trouble with their married life.
