To review this tome for a psychoanalytic journal is difficult because Dr. Mowrer believes that “there is an appreciable loss (I am tempted to say ‘collapse”) of confidence in psychoanalysis, with a new and rather surprising willingness in lay and professional circles alike to consider the possibility that something commonly called ‘Values' may be of central importance.”
