Das Buch des Genfer Romanisten ist unauffällig skandalös. Es radikalisiert das von Freud immer wieder formulierte Argument, daß eine der Traditionen, aus denen seine Wissenschaft hervorgegangen ist, die Literatur war. Es radikalisiert dies Argument so, daß die Grenzen zwischen Psychoanalyse und Literatur verschwimmen.
