Die elterliche Reinlichkeitserziehung setzt in der Regel in einer Entwicklungsphase des Kindes ein, die durch den schwierigen Auflösungsprozeß der Dualunion von Mutter und Kind gekennzeichnet ist. Setzen die Eltern in dieser Phase trotz der Unreife des Kindes ihren Willen durch, so resultieren daraus Störungen der Selbstregulationsfunktion wie Enkopresis, Obstipation und Enuresis.
