Marianne Leuzinger-Bohleber

»Although various analysts have written about an era of convergence (Wallerstein, 1988), to some extent one might consider that psychoanalysis has entered into a time that is best thought of as similar to the era of the tower of Babel. […] There is however a difference; in the Old Testament God created many languages and there was confusion. In the new testament of psychoanalysis, we use the same language and there is confusion. It is unclear for instance whether authors' from different theoretical perspectives when using the same theoretical terms are actually using the same concept. This tower of Babel however can be seen as having different effects; as a factor that makes it difficult or impossible for us to communicate, or as a precursor to developing new theoretical concepts and new ways of describing clinical experiences.
