Tip: To see translations of Freud SE or GW…

PEP-Web Tip of the Day

When you hover your mouse over a paragraph of the Standard Edition (SE) long enough, the corresponding text from Gesammelte Werke slides from the bottom of the PEP-Web window, and vice versa.

If the slide up window bothers you, you can turn it off by checking the box “Turn off Translations” in the slide-up. But if you’ve turned it off, how do you turn it back on? The option to turn off the translations only is effective for the current session (it uses a stored cookie in your browser). So the easiest way to turn it back on again is to close your browser (all open windows), and reopen it.

For the complete list of tips, see PEP-Web Tips on the PEP-Web support page.

The X Nordic Psychoanalytic congress in Turku was the main event of the year, analysts in Turku being responsible for the organising work. The theme of the congress was “The dissolution of the oedipus complex”. The congress was well attended, the number of participants exceeding 200 and that of companions 50. The choice of the congress location at the heart of the old capital of Finland turned out to be successful. The majority of congress papers will be published in this journal.

Besides the scientific meetings, five post-graduate seminars were functioning. There has also been a group: “Analysts against nuclear war”, holding meetings once a month. The group belongs to the organisation “International Psychoanalysts against nuclear war”, which was founded at the IPA congress in Hamburg, 1985.

The number of members is now 101, of which 41 senior and 59 associate members. 41 candidates are in training. A training seminar for expertness in child analysis is also functioning; the seminar started in autumn 1984, with five analysts participating.

The scientific programme:

January 16

Johannes Lehtonen: On sadism.

February 13

Maija-Liisa Laakso, Pekka Rilva and Hilkka Valtonen: “Some viewpoints of the phallic and oedipal phase.”

February 27

Eero Rechardt: “The incomprehensibility of final destruction”. A report of the IPANW group.

March 12

Kauko Vauhkonen: “Pleasure and anxiety – the basic elements of psychic existence?”

April 14

A general discussion on the question “Psychoanalysis versus psychotherapy”. The subject was presented for discussion by Esa Roos and Anneli Stewen.
