Dear friend,

Let us quote: “To Prince Piccolomini.”1 I congratulate you on your promotion perhaps more seriously than you give me credit for, for, although I am just now becoming convinced how secure your existence also is as a Ψ Ast, I am nonetheless decidedly against any alienation from the world, the beggar's existence and lack of influence connected with it, and I also expect from the improvement of your position an advancement for carrying out your continuing plans. Among these, the section in Budapest is the next, and by no means the least important, opportunity. Herr v. Freund has made a very kind impression on me. I am now making a living from your practice.

I am also very much involved with seeing you soon in Vienna.
