Sigmund Freud

Vienna, January 12, 1917
IX., Berggasse 19

Dear friend,

I am sorry to hear that your health has again been shaken. I also don't know how to advise you about anything expedient from here. With us, going away has been made very remote by costs and difficulties in finding provisions. We don't want to consider resuming the analysis.

We also can't take up the matter with Harmonia any more. My refusal was in conformity with your and Ignotus's expert advice and a deep inner inclination to a negative decision. It would look strange if you now sought a connection where nothing else has changed. The man himself could have remonstrated with a clearer conscience.

Of the things you sent me I am enclosing only Ernest Jones's letter.
