Sigmund Freud

Dear friend,

I would have written to you a long time ago, if there had been something more positive to report. But everything is negative, everything is inhibition, limitation, renunciation, at most, stifled expectation.

Annerl's fate will interest you most. On Monday she went to Sulz, because there was no room in Breitenstein1 and the Semmering boarding-houses. There she promptly came down with influenza, today out of bed, to be sure, but her accommodations don't offer her what is desired. I will visit her on Sunday and then have her come back soon.

The works with Heller have been disrupted by the final disppearance of Frau Fischer. There is now nobody there who knows the business. The Zeitschrift is stuck because the simple printing block for my work can't be had. The printing of the Lectures has been halted. Hardly anything can be done with Heller by himself.

I have talked with two patients in ten days in my office hours; no new ones have been added. So my day is hardly filled. For two weeks darkness and cold have made my usual nightly work impossible.
