Dear Professor,

I can share with you the following about the case of Dr. von Freund:

As I already related to you, he told me about three weeks ago that he would rather have a girl, since he would like to prepare himself “for the short term.” I connected that with the idea of an early death as a result of a recurrence of sarcoma.2 Soon thereafter a boy3 was born to him.

Yesterday Dr. Lévy told me that Dr. von Freund had suddenly fallen ill with an “anxiety neurosis.” Today I saw him and unfortunately determined an acute incipient psychosis.
