Dear Professor Freud,

It gave me enormous pleasure to hear that the Jahrbuch and especially my marginal notes on Wittels have earned your approval. I knew of course that I could not quite disown the father when writing about my Agathli, but I don't think this personal note will worry the initiates. The analogies with Little Hans should have been developed if only it had been possible to keep these explanations short. I had the feeling that I would have had to say very many things I wanted to avoid. The thicker a work is the less it is read. Finally, one must after all leave something to the reader's imagination. I wonder very much what the critics will make of this feminine counterpart to Little Hans (“Poor little boy, poor little girl”).1a

I hope to publish all the papers you have so kindly rounded up for me in the next Jahrbuch.
